Q&A with Rosemount head softball coach Tiffany Rose

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. — A Q&A with Tiffany Rose who is the head softball coach at Rosemount High School.

How long have you been coaching?

Tiffany Rose: This is my 20th season coaching softball, the last 13 have been at Rosemount High School.

What is your background in this sport?

Rose: I have been playing softball since I was 5 years old. Back then we played slow pitch because it was the only option. It wasn’t until I was 11 years old that we started playing fastpitch softball. I played 5 years of varsity at Rosemount HS and then played at St. Cloud State.

What is the biggest life lesson you’ve learned from being a coach?

Rose: The biggest life lesson I have learned is that communication is key. When coaches and players have open and honest communication, all aspects of the sport are easier.

What are one or two things that the team does in training that are keys to their success?

Rose: This specific group of players has taken advantage of the opportunities that RHS gives them in the weight room. There are a handful of players who go to Champions Club at 6am to lift and condition. As a coach I am thankful that athletes have this opportunity because it is difficult to incorporate during the regular season. Gaining strength and agility has been key to their success over the past 2 seasons.

How do you encourage the team after a disappointing loss?

Rose: The coaching staff for sure embraces losing games. There are so many lessons that improve everyone when things don’t go your way. As a team we talk about what we could have done better and how it’s never just one play or one at bat that decides the outcome of a game. There are usually numerous things we could have done along the way to put ourselves in a better situation. But probably the number one thing we stress is how are you all (the team) going to respond? Do you want to hang your heads or come back tomorrow and take care of business?

Describe your proudest coaching moment.

Rose: In 2019 the team was seeded #7 in the section. The players were really upset, as they were hoping for a higher seed and as coaches we could see it on their faces the next day at practice. The first game of sections they beat the #2 seed Park, 3-2. Then they beat the #3 seed Hastings, 1-0. That group finished 3rd in the section and I was so proud that they believed in themselves, worked hard and performed to their ability!

What legacy do you hope to leave as a coach?

Rose: I hope to leave a legacy that while I am very competitive and want to win every game, the most important thing about playing softball is building relationships, making memories and having fun!
