Nationals’ No. 2 pick Dylan Crews dominates MiLB appearance

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (BVM) – It’s been just over 10 games for Washington Nationals’ No. 2 overall pick Dylan Crews, but the former LSU baseball star is wasting no time at Single-A Fredericksburg.

In his 11th minor league baseball game, Crews showcased why he was the buzz of the 2023 MLB Draft, going 3-for-3 with two home runs by just the fourth inning. Two at-bats later, Crews had boosted his final line to 5-for-5 in the team’s matchup against the Lynchburg Hillcats, with three singles to go along with his two blasts.

Crews, the early favorite for the No. 1 pick in the recent MLB draft, saw teammate Paul Skenes selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the slot before him as he went on to hear his name called the following pick. The star-studded collegiate duo helped deliver a dominant 2023 campaign down in Baton Rouge, behind a 54-17 record and 2023 College World Series Finals win. Crews repeated as the SEC Player of the Year, slashing .426/.567/.713 in 2023.

The star outfielder’s six-RBI performance unfortunately came during a 14-13 loss for his squad, but the top pick has enjoyed a hot start to his minor league career. Following a three-hit day in his opening, Crews has gone on to total 13 hits and 15 RBIs.

“The game doesn’t change at the end of the day, it’s still the same game,” Crews said of his mindset following his pro debut earlier this month. “I’m going to go out there and compete every day. [Today] was a great day.”

In an impressive Nationals’ minor league system, Crews ranks as the team’s top overall player and the No. 4 prospect in all of baseball. With a chance to build on his recent run, the LSU product will have just under a month to the close of his team’s Single-A season.

“I’m in a great organization, and they’re helping me out tremendously to get to where I need to get to,” Crews said. “They’re getting me 110% ready to play these games, and I couldn’t be happier with where I am.”
