Emanuel Ross’ grueling workouts led to Stanford football

RED BANK, N.J. (BVM) – Emanuel Ross wants to quit football after every practice.

It is not because he dislikes the sport, but it is because he drains himself to the max every single day.

“The beauty in that is I go and do it all over again the next day,” Ross said. “What you get out of all of those workouts is success.”

This is how Ross turned himself into a four-star recruit and he’s viewed as one of the best prep players in the state of New Jersey.

The Red Bank Catholic star senior caught 29 passes last fall with 615 yards and 11 touchdowns.

With Ross’ background, football may not have been his expected path, but he has made quite an impact already in the sport.

Both of his parents were born in Guyana, a country in South America, but only met once they had both moved to the United States. Neither had much of a grasp on American football, but Ross was still able to learn the game when he began to play at recess.

“I just kind of grew a love for football on my own,” Ross said. “I ended up finding it and I’m glad I did.”

He started playing organized football a few years later at the age of 11 and it just took off from there.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound receiver has blossomed over the past few seasons, piquing the interest of many schools around the country. Many high school athletes view the recruiting process as stressful, but Ross could not be more grateful.

“It opened up so many opportunities for me and my family,” Ross said. “It was a blessing. I got to travel to a lot of new places and see more of the United States.”

He announced his commitment to Stanford this past June.

“You could tell they didn’t try to just fluff the visit,” Ross said. “I could sense the authenticity. I knew I wanted to work in an atmosphere like that with a lot of professionals. Not only on the football field but as a school with all of the other amazing students I’d be able to meet.”

Ross however is not a typical student. With his prowess in football, he has to commit the proper time to his craft on the field while also in the classroom. This does not allow him to have as much free time as the typical high schooler, but it will all be worth it in the end.

“There’s good things that come with it, but there are also things you have to sacrifice,” Ross said. “At the end of the day with the goals I want to achieve, I’ll take the sacrifices to get to where I need to get.”

Those goals include another state championship at Red Bank Catholic, contributing as a freshman at Stanford and bringing home a Biletnikoff Award, given to college football’s best wide receiver.

These are lofty goals, but with Ross’ work ethic, he is not one to be doubted.
