Every Pac-12 football program’s best season of all time
Arizona: 1998
Under longtime head coach Dick Tomey, Arizona put together its best season in program history in 1998, going 12-1 and finishing No. 4 in both the AP and coaches polls. The season culminated with a win over Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl, giving Arizona its most wins in program history. The Wildcats were led throughout the year by a potent offense under quarterback Keith Smith, 1,000-yard rusher Trung Candidate, and some future NFL pass catchers in Dennis Northcutt and Jeremy McDaniel. Perhaps the biggest X-factor on the team was Chris McCallister who was not only a terrific cornerback, but also a lethal kick returner who was named a first-team All-Pac-10 player and was an unanimous All-American selection.
