Ayinde Johnson’s resilient journey: A dad’s view
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — When I think of my son Ayinde, aspects of “A Father’s Prayer” come to mind. I have watched his resilience, commitment, confidence, focus, faith, and loyalty amid COVID and injury. He is the epitome of a DB, toughness, heart and of course swag. His words are selective and few, but on the field the passion is unrelenting. His loyalty and pride as an LIU Shark have made him a team favorite. It was fun as a dad last year hearing team members chanting his mantras “Yes Lord and Thank you God”
Last year along with the remarkable young QB Luca Stanzani, he also started the last 4 games in their 4-0 run to complete the season. He concluded the season with NEC Defensive Player of the Week, NEC Rookie of the Week and NEC Prime Performer. Amassing 18 tackles, 16 solo, game saving int’s in the waning minutes of 2 games. One was a 40 yard touchdown against CCSU.
After coming in as a touted recruit, this semester he will not only complete graduation requirements, but he will kickoff the season as the starting DB in their opener vs Ohio University. What an amazing journey for a young man who simply loves to play football.
Always overlooked and often under utilized. But always ready! A proud pop.
