Kearney boys basketball: A season of growth and grit
KEARNEY, Mo. — When the 2022-23 basketball season ended for the Kearney Bulldogs boys’ basketball program, the positive experiences outweighed the negatives. The Bulldogs lost by 2 points to the Smithville Warriors in the District Semi-Finals of the Class 5 State Tournament in a highly electric battle mixed with a loud environment. This loss ended the Bulldogs’ season with a record of 9-18, which saw the Bulldogs go 4-2 down the home stretch, including a huge win over state-ranked Class 6 Park Hill to end the regular season.
The Bulldogs would part ways with two seniors, Braxton Page, and Carter Prather, who would leave the team to a handful of juniors and sophomores to carry on the Bulldog Basketball way for this upcoming season.
The Bulldogs will return plenty of familiar faces, highlighted by seniors Davin Hanna, Harvey Sayon, and Manny Linthacum, who all received Post-Season honors, along with an experienced senior class of players and a mix of juniors and sophomores for the 2023-24 season to round out their roster.
That experience will play a vital role in the Bulldogs’ season this year as they will take on a schedule that requires them to bring their best to the court, night in and night out. These tournaments include The Savannah Invitational, The William Jewell Holiday Hoops Tournament, and the Kearney Classic. They are all great opportunities to go out and see the Bulldogs play against some of the best competition in the Metro Area. We are also very excited about the JV, Freshman, and 8th Grade teams for the upcoming season, as our rosters will be full of athletes who are consistently getting better every day.
The boys’ basketball program invites you to attend our home games at the TDR Fieldhouse and support our boys’ and girls’ basketball programs for this upcoming season. There is nothing better than playing in front of a packed gym. We look forward to the 23-24 season and thank everyone for supporting our program!
