Even before his final season at Hutto, Hammond was already seen as a star. As a junior, Hammond completed 59.1% of his passes for 2,763 yards, 30 touchdowns and five interceptions, while adding 728 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. Given his stellar play, Hammond earned a four-star rating from 247 Sports, ESPN and Rivals.
As a top recruit in the Texas senior class, Hammond held 11 D-I offers including to Auburn, Oregon, Penn State Tennessee and Texas A&M, among others. However, Hammond ultimately decided to stay in-state, committing to Texas Tech last December.

Hammond’s standout performance rightfully earned the signal caller plenty of attention nationally. Perhaps the most special shoutout came from a former Red Raiders quarterback – Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes.

Given his dual-threat ability on display with the Hippos, Hammond will hope to make Texas Tech fans reminisce about their former standout quarterback. With his record-setting performance, Hammond could be the next best signal caller in Lubbock in the future. Meanwhile, he will look to bring home some more hardware both individually and for Hutto as he finishes his senior campaign.
