A star in the making: Meet Palmetto baseball player Trey Lawrence

PALMETTO, Fla. — Meet a local athlete from Palmetto High School, Trey Lawrence, who has a promising future as a rising star in the world of baseball. Heading into his senior year, Trey is capping off what has been a long journey, having grown up around the game at a young age by spending time with his father, Edwin “Chip” Lawrence, who played minor league baseball in the 90s and has since spent time as a scout for several MLB teams, including his current position with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Born right here in Manatee County, Trey grew up in Palmetto and spent time bonding with his dad on scouting trips, visiting ballparks and watching different players and teams, which is what attracted him to the game itself.

In addition to playing High School baseball for the Tigers as both an infielder and a right-handed pitcher, Trey has spent time playing with the Atlanta Braves affiliate in the East Coast Pro baseball league. The East Coast Pro Showcase is a well-known non-profit event run by MLB Scouts where proceeds from the event are placed in a fund to aid MLB Scouts, both active and retired, in need of financial assistance due to unfortunate circumstances.

The region’s most elite High School underclassmen compete and earn recognition by scouts from MLB teams around the country. Annually, between 80 and 110 players from the event are selected in the MLB Rule 4 Draft. Being part of this elite group of athletes has provided Trey with some unique opportunities, including having already played in some major league ballparks like Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, home of the White sox.

Trey has committed to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University where he will be majoring in sports management and continuing to pursue his baseball career at the collegiate level. Be sure to check out a Palmetto Tigers game during the upcoming spring season to cheer Trey on and wish him well in what is sure to be an exciting and bright future ahead!
