Fruita competes but can’t beat Grandview
AURORA — For most of the first half Saturday afternoon, the Fruita Monument High School football team hung with No. 7 Grandview and its Air Force Academy committed quarterback, Liam Szarka. The Wildcats ate time off the clock and maintained possession across their second and third drives of the game, ultimately tying their Class 5A opponents 14-14 late in the second quarter. Still, the 4A squad fell victim to the Wolves’ passing attack with a wickedly fast scoring drive before the break, then another touchdown on the other side of halftime, as Fruita fell 42-21 at Legacy Stadium.
