At the moment, California high school athletes can earn money off their name, image and likeness – but there are some restrictions, according to Openendorse.
In general, NIL compensation can come in many forms. Athletes can attain sponsorship deals thanks to their success on the field and/or social media following. They can find other ways to capitalize off their marketability, such as by starting their own camps or by selling their own fan gear. Notably, the NCAA has been cracking down on “pay-for-play” arrangements.
