In a way, 1960 was a cathartic year for the Eagles.
The team hadn’t reached the postseason since repeating as NFL champions in 1949. After adding some more hardware to its trophy case, Philadelphia wouldn’t get to the playoffs again until 1977.
Chuck Bednarik’s unmistakable knockout hit on the New York Giants’ Frank Gifford happened during this campaign, which saw him and seven others — including quarterback Norm Van Brocklin and defensive tackle Marion Campbell — be named to the Pro Bowl.
Philly downed Green Bay, 17-13, to win the NFL Championship Game.
