Ranking the 10 best potential 2023 MLB postseason matchups
8. Tampa Bay Rays vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
Over the past handful of seasons, both the Rays and Dodgers have been perennial World Series contenders in their respective leagues, and that is no different in 2023. In 2020, that led the franchises to a World Series battle against each other which concluded a pandemic-shortened season, as the Dodgers beat the Rays in six games to claim their first title in over 30 years in the only postseason series between the two teams. Los Angeles and Tampa Bay have actually only played 20 other games against each other, including a three-game series this May that the Rays won.
A World Series rematch between the teams this year would pit what was the hottest team in baseball through much of the first half in the Rays – who were 57-28 through the end of June – against the hottest team of the second half, the Dodgers, who have gone 47-22 since the All-Star break. In 2020, Randy Arozarena made his name known and will be one of the Rays’ most important players again this postseason alongside guys like Isaac Paredes and Yandy Diaz. The Dodgers also still feature some key stars from the 2020 matchup including Mookie Betts, Max Muncy and Clayton Kershaw who would provide another exciting series against the Rays.
