7. Alan Ameche, FB, 1955-60
Another Wisconsin product, Ameche was drafted third overall following a Heisman-winning season. He played all six seasons with the Colts, earning Rookie of the Year honors, four All-Pro selections, and four Pro Bowls. He also won two NFL Championships alongside legendary quarterback Johnny Unitas.
Ameche is most known for his one-year touchdown run in the 1958 NFL Championship game that proved to be the deciding factor in a Colts’ victory over the New York Giants. Unfortunately, an acute Achilles tendon injury ended his career shortly after. Ameche was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1975.
