Meet El Dorado water polo athlete Trevor Davis

PLACENTIA, Calif. — El Dorado Hawks senior, Trevor Davis, received the honor of being named Orange County Boy’s Athlete of the Week as well as SoCal Athlete of the Week in September for his outstanding performance in water polo. Trevor led his team to victory in the Weisz Tournament, scoring an incredible 21 goals to secure the championship for the Golden Hawks. In addition to contributing 67% of El Dorado’s scoring, he snagged 20 assists, 9 steals, a field block, and 8 drawn ejections during the 4 games of the tournament.

Trevor has been playing water polo for 5 years and has been the team captain for the past 2 years. He works hard to improve himself every day. His biggest challenge is having the right mentality and practicing being mentally strong. The best advice he’s ever received from a coach is, “Don’t stay in the past or go in the future, but stay in the now.” An example of Trevor putting this into practice is after making a bad turnover in a game and then going back down and making an assist for a goal. His athleticism, leadership and his outgoing personality have made him a valuable part of his team. Trevor’s favorite part of water polo is the incredible bond it has created between him and his teammates. “You can’t do anything alone,” says Trevor about his team.

The El Dorado Hawks water polo team had the opportunity of a lifetime to play in Croatia and Montenegro this summer for two weeks. This trip was an amazing experience that allowed Trevor quality time with his teammates and the opportunity to play tournaments in several cities, such as Split, Dubrovnik, Zadar, Makarska, and Zagreb. “We created a stronger bond between us during our trip that has ultimately made us an overall better team,” shared Trevor. “The practices we endured were like no other and the games that we played were nothing like we have experienced at home.” Trevor’s mother, Cheri Davis, described the trip, “As a parent and spectator of the Hawks team, I would say that Croatia served them well! They have been playing much more aggressively, their passing has been spot on, and they know what to expect from each other. They seem to be more in unison with each other and their trust is stronger. It is so exciting to watch them play.”

This young athlete loves going to the beach and listening to music. His pregame ritual includes listening to music to get himself in the right mindset. His favorite song is ‘Enter Sandman,’ by Metallica. Before going in the water for game time, Trevor always says a quick prayer. Following some of the best advice he’s been given, Trevor doesn’t take anything for granted. He aspires to play in college and continue to improve his game. We wish Trevor the best of luck as he leads his team his senior year and decides his future.
