Horace Mann MS football player Garrison Gale new to sport but learning quickly

WAUSAU, Wis. — Garrison Gale, 14, is a football player at Horace Mann Middle School. In just his second year in the sport, Garrison is still trying to learn the game and improve his skills. He’s also trying to determine which position on the field is the best fit for him, which he has enjoyed as he has played on both sides of the ball.

“Competing agains other teams and players that have been playing tackle more years (is difficult),” said Garrison.

Because of his recent arrival in the sport, he’s found playing against other more experienced players a challenge. Fortunately, Garrison learns quickly on the field.

“When playing outside linebacker, I allowed a running back to get past me,” said Garrison. “I adjusted to make sure he couldn’t get around me.”

Garrison has also benefitted from good advice and good coaching.

“I’ve been told that hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard,” said Garrison. “And, sometimes, you need to rely on other people.”

Garrison’s pregame routine is pretty simple. He always grabs a snack and drinks lots of water.

When he’s not playing football, he enjoys playing other sports, including basketball, baseball and golf. He also enjoys video games.
