Ranking the 10 best NFL rookie tight end seasons of all time
5. Charle Young, Philadelphia Eagles – 1973
Young’s 13-year career is one of the longest on this list, but it’s the beginning of his time in the NFL that truly stands out. A unanimous first-team All-American at USC where he also became a national champion in 1972, Young made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, and finished runner-up in rookie-of-the-year voting in 1973. That year, he amassed 55 receptions, 854 yards and six touchdowns, each of which are top-10 marks among rookie tight ends all time. Young also averaged the second-most yards per game for first-year tight ends with 61. Going on to play with the Rams, 49ers and Seahawks, Young finished his career as a Super Bowl champion and three-time All-Pro.
