Jimmy Butler says ‘Hell no’ to sacrificing coffee for title

MIAMI (BVM) – Jimmy Butler is regarded as one of the NBA’s most intense competitors and he has even been compared to Kobe Bryant in terms of their fierce desire and determination to win.

But the six-time All-Star does have a breaking point.

Butler sat down with Rohan Nadkarni of Sports Illustrated and they discussed multiple subjects including his love of coffee. Following the publication of the story on Wednesday, Nadkarni went to X, formerly known as Twitter, and posted a fun quote that did not make the piece.

The journalist asked the Miami Heat guard if he would be willing to give up the caffeinated drink for a year in order to win an NBA championship. Butler’s response was, “Hell no.”

Butler has twice led Miami to the NBA Finals, but both times the team came up short. For a player that is as dedicated to winning as he is, the quote came as a surprise.

The NBA star’s love for coffee has been well-documented, but this is still eye-opening.

Butler famously sold coffee out of his hotel room during the NBA “bubble” for $20 a cup.

“All I could think about was how I could hustle these guys out of their cash,” Butler told Kat Thompson of Thrillist. “I knew people had cash and no one was using it because of COVID, so I decided to take cash.”

He has continued to profit off it ever since, later founding Big Face Coffee. Butler has since become enamored with everything about it including how it is made and where it comes from.

“I get to go to all of these amazing countries and learn about their cultures and what it takes to make the perfect cup of coffee,” Butler told Thompson. “And just be grateful and thankful for the individuals that are putting their life’s work into a coffee farm.”

Many athletes struggle to stay entertained post-retirement, but it is hard to believe that will be the case with Butler as he already has a hobby he is passionate about. Now the only question will be if he can win an NBA title before he dives head first into the world of coffee.
