Klay Thompson, Warriors at ‘dead point’; Top 5 landing spots
SAN FRANCISCO (BVM) – Contract negotiations between Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors have stalled over the salary and length of an extension, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
With there being a “significant gap” in the years and money, negotiations between the two sides are at a “dead point.” Thompson reportedly wants much more than what the Warriors have offered as he begins his 13th season with the franchise that drafted him 11th overall in 2011.
The 32-year-old led the NBA in 3-pointers (301) last season while averaging 21.9 points and shooting 41.2% from deep. There isn’t an extension deadline (Golden State can extend Thompson all the way up until June 30, the day before free agency) but the Warriors are intent on ducking under the second tax apron next summer, according to Charania, which limits how much future money they are willing to commit currently.
Golden State recently signed both Andrew Wiggins ($27.2 million annually) and Draymond Green ($25 million annually) to extensions but it appears Thompson will hit unrestricted free agency next summer.
With that in mind, here are five possible landing spots for Thompson in 2024.
