Ranking the San Diego Padres’ top 5 manager candidates

SAN DIEGO (BVM) — The San Diego Padres appeared in the NLCS for the first time since 1998 last year and were expected to make the postseason again in 2023. However, the Padres fell short of the goal and finished third in the NL West.

Along with an underwhelming season, reports of a strained relationship between Bob Melvin and current president of baseball operations A.J. Preller surfaced, and Melvin was granted permission to interview for the San Francisco Giants job on Sunday.

On Tuesday, it was reported by The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly that the Giants are ready to announce Melvin as their next manager.

Melvin has won over 1,500 games, but his days in San Diego are coming to a close, and the franchise will begin its search for a new manager. Here are the top five candidates who could replace him.
