The Principia Cross Country team delivered an outstanding performance at the 2023 SLIAC Championships. Ten Panthers achieved personal records (PRs) at the meet, showcasing their progress and determination. While Greenville dominated, claiming both team titles, the Principia women secured a second-place finish out of nine teams with 82 points, and the Principia men placed third out of ten teams with 95 points. The meet, held at Litchfield Country Club, witnessed impressive performances from several individuals. Notably, Sarah Erickson and Laura Mayo ran aggressively throughout the race, with Erickson securing a remarkable 2-minute PR to finish 10th overall at 26:09. Mayo also improved her PR from 2021, finishing shortly after at 26:18. Additionally, freshman Myka Fenton made an impressive collegiate debut, finishing 13th with a time of 26:33. In the men’s 8K race, Rex Heath claimed 6th place with a PR of 26:40, earning a second consecutive SLIAC First Team All-Conference accolade. Zach Proctor also excelled, finishing 11th and securing a PR of 26:54, marking a successful debut season for him in college cross country. Coach Barron expressed immense pride in the team’s performance, commending their courage and resilience. The Panthers will now prepare for the NCAA DIII Midwest Regionals at Wartburg College in Iowa, where they will aim to cap off their season in style, potentially earning a spot in Nationals.
