Meet Lovejoy football powerhouse Payton Pierce
LUCAS, Texas — For many high school seniors who participate in sports, there is a lot of excitement surrounding high school athletes committing to play for their chosen college or university. One player who has recently made headlines for his commitment is Payton Pierce.
Payton is a highly talented Lucas Lovejoy football player who has been making waves on the high school football scene. He is ranked as the No.15 linebacker in the country by 247Sports and was named the Texas District 7-5A-II Defensive Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore in 2021. He also placed 1st at the UIL state wrestling tournament.
Over 40 college football programs were vying for Pierce’s attention, but he ultimately decided to commit to Ohio State University. This decision has been met with excitement from Ohio State fans, who are eager to see what Pierce will bring to the team.
Payton finds his biggest challenge is staying mentally collected when things go wrong during a game. He told us the best advice he received has been, “Do your best and let God take care of the rest. All you can give is your very best, it keeps my mindset in the right spot and prevents me from worrying about things that I can’t control.” The advice he has received also aligns with his motto from 1 Samuel 16:7 “…For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
While Payton is a formidable opponent for any opposing team, off the field he is pretty outgoing with a good sense of humor. Part of his success has been his team mentality of, “…being together is so much stronger than trying to do something alone out of selfishness.”
His commitment to success on the field has also translated into his academic life. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has a GPA of 3.96. When Payton has free time, he enjoys going fishing and hanging out with friends.
