Shimano, the leading cycling component manufacturer, has fallen victim to a ransomware attack, with approximately 4.5 terabytes of sensitive company data being affected. The attack, carried out by an active cybercrime group called LockBit, threatens to release the data on November 5, 2023. Shimano is the latest high-profile target of LockBit, with companies such as Royal Mail and Boeing also being victimized. The extent of the ransom demanded by the hackers is currently unknown, but this comes as a major blow to Shimano, which has already faced significant challenges, including a product recall and declining sales.
