California stuns UAlbany, wins America East Championship in thrilling fashion

In a dramatic championship game, the #19 UAlbany field hockey team fell to fourth-seed California in overtime, ending their shot at back-to-back titles. Despite numerous opportunities, UAlbany couldn’t capitalize on the game, with California’s goalie and defense playing exceptionally well. Coach Phil Sykes praised his team’s effort and passion throughout the season, highlighting their growth and evolution. UAlbany outshot California, but the Golden Bears managed to secure the winning goal in overtime. Junior Alison Smisdom and Floor de Ruiter each scored a goal for UAlbany. The team now turns its attention to supporting California in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
