Discovery Canyon’s Avery Hixson, a standout catcher, has signed with Southern Illinois to play NCAA Division I softball. Hixson, who was named Player of the Year in the Pikes Peak Athletic Conference and led her team to the state tournament, will study pre-med while playing for her parents’ alma mater. The signing also highlights the growth of softball in Colorado Springs, as Lewis-Palmer’s Grace Lendt also signed with a Division I program, University of Missouri-Kansas City, on the same day.
