5 possible landing spots for free agent OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
4. New York Mets
The Mets were in the bottom third in the league in several hitting metrics last season including two of the most important ones: hits and average. It’s part of the reason why the team went a disappointing 75-87 overall. Gurriel Jr.’s career .279 batting average may not entirely fix those offensive woes, but he would provide a nice bat for the Mets to add into their lineup. All three of the Mets’ current starting outfielders, Starling Marte, Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo, ended the 2023 season with injuries. While they all should be ready to go by 2024, Gurriel Jr. could provide a steady upgrade in New York’s outfield with his bat and his underrated glove, or perhaps can slot in as the Mets’ designated hitter more often than not as well.
