Buena Colts: Heart and soul on the gridiron
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — It was the start of a perfect season, seeing the Colts five games winning streak going into their sixth week facing the Marana High Tigers. This was the first time since 1977 since they had had this great success on the gridiron.
Every week since spring camp, Coach Thomas and the Buena coaching staff have been preaching getting the basics down and completing your assignments. Coach Thomas frequently tell the young men to take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself, “who do you see looking back at you?” That is the only person that can make you a winner or loser because only you decide if you will leave your all on that field each Friday that your compete.
Coach Thomas, nor any of his staff can do it for you. Your parents can cheer from the stadium, but they cannot help you on the field. No one can…. but YOU!
These warriors decide every time they set foot on George E. Loveless Field that they will give everything they have inside of them. They give their heart and soul, which have resulted in a 5 win/ 1 loss season thus far. Coach Thomas desire to have an undefeated season but he truly desires to see the young men win in every area of their life; academics, employment, family and athletics.
Coach Thomas encourages them to give everything and leave no regrets when you leave that field on Friday nights. That is what real champions are made of!
The coaching staff continues to preach that they are not just teammates, they are you fellow warriors. They are BROTHERS. They are FAMILY. The Buena Fighting Colts are Family!
From this teaching they will understand that you die for your family! You sacrifice for you family! You give your heart to your family! While competing, if you see one of your brothers needs help – go help your brother! If you care for your brothers, you will give anything to your brothers!
That is the ingredient for winning season; great coaching, but in from the athletes and superior performance on the field. The Colts give everything that they have, for their families, for their brothers and for Buena Colts Football.
They will not be defeated, they will not leave and once of gas in their tanks, they will fight for it, they will give their all. LETS GO COLTS!
