Lillard grew up in an impoverished area that was filled with gangs, drugs and violence. He wasn’t used to luxury, so he bought himself a Porsche Cabriolet after receiving his first check from the Portland Trail Blazers (rookie salary was $3.1 million in 2012). 

“I came back home, went to Burlingame (California) to that Porsche dealership,” Lillard said (via Fadeaway World). “I was looking at ‘em, test driving ‘em. I was scared as hell test-driving them Porsches.” 

Lillard has since grown his car collection, and he more recently stated that cash is one of the 10 things he can’t live without.
