Ken Dorsey fired; 5 candidates to replace Buffalo Bills OC
3. Pat Shurmur
Shurmur has not only been an offensive coordinator and play caller in the past but has also been an NFL head coach as he served as the Cleveland Browns head coach from 2011-12 and the New York Giants head coach from 2018-19. Currently the co-offensive coordinator for the Colorado Buffaloes, Shurmur may be interested in jumping back to the NFL ranks.
Shurmur and McDermott have a relationship as the two came into the league together as part of Andy Reid’s Philadelphia Eagles staff in 2001 and were together until Shurmur left in 2009 to join the then St. Louis Rams. The two share such a strong relationship that Pat’s son, Kyle, is the offensive quality control coach for the Bills. If McDermott is interested in bringing in a more experienced playcaller, he’d be hard-pressed to find a higher quality one on the open market than Pat.
