A goal-line interception secured a trip to the Superdome for the winner of Calvary-Newman

SHREVEPORT — Calvary’s Landon Sylvie intercepted Newman’s Eli Friend at the goal line with 31 seconds remaining to secure a Cavaliers’ 35-27 victory in a Division III select semifinal Friday night. Newman (10-2) trailed by 15 points early in the fourth quarter, but made it a one-possession game with a touchdown pass from Friend to DJ Thomas with 9:38 remaining. The Greenies began their final drive at their 44 with 4:40 left and drove to the 12-yard line. On fourth-and-7, Friend looked to his left, but Sylvie stepped in front of Newman’s receiver.
