Kearney Bulldogs’ siblings in sports
KEARNEY, Mo. — With the holiday season approaching, what better time to talk about family? Some sibling duos stood out during the Fall season for the Kearney Bulldogs. The Emmons brothers, Corbin and Cameron, are achieving great things on the football team. In Cross Country, Kevin and Olivia Brock are a brother and sister duo pushing each other to do their best while individually setting their own pace. Although some sibling rivalry is involved, these relationships help play an essential role in their selective sport.

Cameron Emmons knows how important it is for him to be a good role model for his younger brother Corbin.
“It’s really fun to try to get onto him and try to make him the best that he can be,” said Cameron. I’m harder on him than anybody else, but I hope he knows that I do that because I want him to be the best he can be.” Cameron is building a legacy at Kearney High School. He’s currently their leading rusher and one of their premier offensive players. Cameron hopes Corbin can pass down what he’s been building at Kearney High School to the youngest Emmons’ brother, Cruise.

On the Cross Country side of things for Kearney HS is the Brocks. Kevin and Olivia are both Juniors for the Kearney Cross Country team. Kevin gives Olivia pep talks before races, and Olivia thinks of Kevin as her best friend. Kevin sees Olivia both as a teammate and as his sister. He sees her helping her team out but also pushing him. Kevin and Olivia like to compare times after races. Although Olivia has a faster time than Kevin, with a PR of 20:11, they still have one more year in high school. Olivia has qualified for state consistently for the Cross Country team, and Kevin heads to Columbia to support his sister. This duo is important to the Cross Country team because Olivia is one of the top seven Varsity runners for the girls’ team, and Kevin steps in for the Varsity boys’ team if they have an issue.

These sibling duos had some great results for their teams. Corbin and Cameron rack up yards for the Kearney offense, allowing them to win big games. These boys helped Kearney get past Smithville and become Class 4 District 8 Champions for the 2023 season. On the Cross Country side, Olivia is a district champion and a state qualifier for the Kearney Cross Country team. Kevin had a great season last year and was the #1 alternate for the boys cross country team. Family is important and has an essential place in Kearney sports.
