NHL players who went from millionaires to bankruptcy
Jack Johnson
Johnson (who currently plays for the Colorado Avalanche) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy back in 2014 because his parents stole millions of dollars from him. At the time, he was playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Johnson gave his mom and dad control over his finances – and his mom later borrowed high-interest loans in his name without his knowledge, according to Fox Sports. With about $15 million, Jack’s parents purchased luxury items such as a beach house in California, according to Forbes.
It was last reported that Jack cut ties with his parents.
To help pay back the loans taken out in his name, Jack liquidated two homes, a Ferrari and he gave up two years of his NHL play, according to The Columbus Dispatch. He was paid roughly $4.4 million per season at the time.
