Ranking 10 early favorites to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy
8. Omarion Hampton, RB, North Carolina
North Carolina has never had a Heisman Trophy winner and Hampton will set out to change that in 2024. Hampton is one of a couple of sophomore backs across college football who had breakout years in 2023 as he ran for 1,442 yards and 15 touchdowns during the regular season while averaging 6.2 yards per carry. The 6-foot, 200-pound halfback also proved capable of being a receiving threat out of the backfield with 215 yards on 26 receptions. Hampton is an incredibly explosive back who ran for 100 yards or more in six of the Tar Heels’ final seven regular season games. How successful North Carolina will be next year without Drake Maye is in question, but Hampton’s production could be hard to ignore for Heisman voters.
