Ranking 10 early favorites to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy
6. J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan
McCarthy is one of a few players on this list who could be headed to the NFL. However, if he returns to Ann Arbor, McCarthy should begin the year in the Heisman conversation. First and foremost, the 6-foot-3 signal caller is a winner as he has helped the Wolverines to a 26-1 record over the past two years which includes a couple of wins over Ohio State, two Big Ten titles and a pair of College Football Playoff appearances. In 2023, McCarthy has thrown for 2,630 yards and 19 touchdowns. Those numbers would likely be higher if Michigan had not blown out so many teams, but perhaps his most impressive stat is his 74.2% completion rate. McCarthy is a consistent performer who continues to get better and another leap forward in 2024 could help him land the Heisman.
