Matt House fired; 5 defensive coordinator candidates for LSU
4. Bob Diaco
Diaco is one LSU defensive assistant who was not let go by Kelly following the 2023 season and could be an in-house candidate for the defensive coordinator job. Diaco was hired by Kelly last offseason as a senior defensive analyst but actually became the special teams team coordinator and outside linebackers coach for the Tigers after Jimmy Lindsey briefly stepped away due to a personal health matter. Working in Diaco’s favor is his close relationship with Kelly as he began coaching with him nearly two decades ago as a defensive assistant at Central Michigan. Diaco has also been on Kelly’s staffs at Cincinnati and Notre Dame. A promotion for Diaco might not bring as much upside compared to some candidates on this list, but the 50-year-old would provide experience and continuity.
