Matt House fired; 5 defensive coordinator candidates for LSU
3. Jesse Minter
Minter’s name is likely to come up often for defensive coordinator positions and potentially even head-coaching jobs in the near future. His coaching career began in the mid-2000s at Notre Dame and he later served as a grad assistant under Kelly at Cincinnati. After stops as defensive coordinator at Indiana State and Georgia State, Minter moved up to the NFL as a defensive assistant with the Baltimore Ravens. The 40-year-old went from working with John Harbaugh to being a key assistant for Jim Harbaugh as he was hired as Michigan’s defensive coordinator in 2022. The Wolverines have the No. 1 total defense in the country in 2023 which has led them to the national championship. Minter also got experience this season as an interim head coach during Jim Harbaugh’s early-season suspension and would be a home-run hire for Kelly.
