Ron Rivera fired; 5 HC candidates for Washington Commanders

5. Mike MacDonald

A couple of veteran defensive minds could be in the mix for the Commanders like Dan Quinn and Aaron Glenn – who the Commanders already requested an interview with – but one of the top defensive coaches on the market is MacDonald. After spending a few seasons on Mark Richt’s staff at Georgia, MacDonald transitioned to the NFL where he worked under John Harbaugh as a defensive assistant with the Ravens. In 2021, Jim Harbaugh hired MacDonald as Michigan’s defensive coordinator before he was re-hired by John for the same role with Baltimore in 2022. The 36-year-old has turned Baltimore into one of the top defensive units in the league the last two seasons. A head-coaching job is likely coming his way soon and it could be with the Commanders.
