Former Allen head football coach Tom Westerberg announces retirement
Tom Westerberg, who coached the Allen football team to four state championships, announced his retirement from coaching on Wednesday. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football first reported Westerberg’s decision, which concludes a 37-year career that saw Westerberg help elevate Allen to a national power on the gridiron. Westerberg coached at Allen for 15 years, including 12 as head coach. He was promoted from offensive coordinator to take over the Eagles in 2004, ushering in a run that saw Allen go 148-15—good for an average of 12.3 wins per season—under Westerberg’s watch.
