Luke Getsy fired; 5 Bears offensive coordinator candidates
2. Eric Bieniemy
Bears general manager Ryan Poles worked alongside Bieniemy with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013-21, so Poles will be well informed in what the offensive coach can bring to a team. While Bieniemy’s greatest successes came working with the Chiefs, helping lead the team to two Super Bowl titles, he ventured out to the Washington Commanders this season with middling results. While it didn’t go great with the Commanders, Bieniemy showed flashes with a strong passing attack and decent results from second-year quarterback Sam Howell.
However, Bieniemy’s future remains a mystery. He could end up interviewing for head coaching positions like he has in the past and could land one, but he may also have to settle for another offensive coordinator role elsewhere. Further, Poles didn’t even bring in Bieniemy for an interview when he was hired as general manager so perhaps the two aren’t as close as it seems.
