Boys basketball: Drew Murphy eclipses 1,000 career points, Tre Poteat drops 40 in Verona’s win over West

Junior Drew Murphy surpassed the 1,000th-point milestone and junior Tre Poteat dropped a career-high 40 points as the Verona boys basketball team beat Madison West 99-78 in a Big Eight win on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at West High School. Murphy finished with 24 points, six rebounds and six assists. Poteat led the Wildcats with 40 points and five rebounds. Senior forward Mason Sherry added a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Junior Kamarr Bridges-Miller added 10 points and eight rebounds. Verona (9-5, 8-2 Big Eight) has won six straight conference games.
