Caleb Downs enters transfer portal; 5 potential landing spots
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (BVM) – With the surprise retirement announcement of legendary head football coach Nick Saban, Alabama players were granted a 30-day window to transfer from the program. Many notable Crimson Tide contributors including defensive back Dezz Ricks, linebacker Shawn Murphy and wide receiver Isaiah Bond, have already decided to enter the transfer portal and have chosen new programs. On Wednesday, another Alabama star decided to transfer.
Freshman safety Caleb Downs, who became the first true freshman to lead the Crimson Tide in tackles since 1970, began the process of entering the transfer portal according to multiple outlets. In his lone season at Alabama, Downs recorded 107 tackles, five pass deflections, 3.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery, and returning a punt for a touchdown. This performance earned Downs the SEC Newcomer of the Year award as well as second-team All-America recognition from the Associated Press, The Sporting News and USA Today.
