Top 10 college football QBs returning for 2024 season
5. Cam Ward
Ward wasn’t going to be back next fall after declaring for the NFL draft on Jan. 1. However, he had a change of heart before filing the official paperwork and decided to return to college by transferring to Miami. Last year as the starting quarterback for Washington State, Ward excelled in the Cougars’ Air Raid system, finishing the year ranked fourth in pass yards per game, sixth in total offense, eighth in passing yards, No. 13 in points responsible for per game, No. 15 in points responsible for and tied for No. 18 in passing touchdowns.
But Ward wasn’t perfect. He ranked just No. 40 in passing efficiency, showing he could improve slightly as a passer. Also, with Washington State’s reliance on the pass, they didn’t finish ranked highly in offensive categories, finishing No. 37 in scoring offense and No. 35 in total offense. If Ward wants to prove himself as a top-level college quarterback, he will need to help bring the Hurricanes offensive unit up as well as keep his stats strong.
