High school sports saw a resurgence after a winter storm, with standout performances from athletes earning them nominations for the Press-Citizen's high school Athlete of the Week for Jan. 15-21.

By the Numbers
  • Girls:
    • Averie Lower had 22 points and six rebounds with four 3-pointers on 44.4% shooting.
    • Callie Levin led all scorers with 23 points and 10 rebounds, also making four 3-pointers, three assists, and four steals.
    • Natalie Ramsey scored 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field with two 3-pointers and three steals.
    • Kara VeDepo secured two victories en route to a first-place finish, representing the Solon girls wrestling team well.
    • Shaona Emmanuel earned a first-place finish for Iowa City High at the MVC Conference Tournament.
  • Boys:
    • Gehrig Turner notched a team-high 15 points and six assists with two 3-pointers and four rebounds.
    • Haiden Hardy shot 7-of-12 from the field, scoring a team-high 19 points, and making four 3-pointers with eight rebounds.
    • Eddie Petersen finished with 14 points, making a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired and contributing with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
    • Jordan Schmidt earned first place in the 138-pound bracket at the Herb Irgens Invitational.
    • Vincenzo Lima went 5-0, winning all 5 matches by fall, and defeating Grant Henderson in the finals to take home first place at the Denny Christenson Tournament.
