Spartans suffer first GMC loss

WAUWATOSA — Wauwatosa East edged Brookfield East 50-49 in a Greater Metro Conference girls basketball battle Tuesday, dealing the Spartans their first GMC setback. Sophomore Maya Kovacic scored a game-high 22 points and senior Shae Kelley added 18 for the Spartans (15-3, 9-1), but the Red Raiders (15-2, 9-2) outscored them 22-21 in the second half to break a 28-28 halftime tie.
