Carleton College senior Michael Carey was named to the 2023 Football Academic All-America Team for his excellence in the classroom and on the field. This recognition adds to his earlier Academic All-District selection and recent Academic All-MIAC award. Carey is the second Knight to receive this honor this academic year, following men's soccer All-American Justin Crawmer. As a three-year starter, Carey led the MIAC with 9.0 sacks and recorded 11.5 tackles for loss. He has 144 career tackles with 19.0 sacks. The Academic All-America list for Division III football includes 50 players, with 26 on the first team and 20 on the second team. Student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 and have played in a significant percentage of their team's games to be considered. The Academic All-America teams are voted on by members of CSC.
