1,000th point scored by Ben Nacey of Cox High School

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Recently, Frank W. Cox High School basketball fans packed the gym at Bayside High School to watch Ben Nacey, the 6’9” senior phenom of Cox’s varsity basketball team, score his 1000th point in his high school career.

As the referee centered the ball at half court, fans of both Cox and Bayside anxiously awaited the tip off, with spectators whispering about the enormous accomplishment that Nacey was about to achieve.

When Nacey was fouled and sunk his 1000th point at the free throw line, the announcer recognized his amazing feat over the speakers. Cheers erupted from the stands.

“I felt extremely proud of myself,” said Nacey. “I didn’t know that I was going to hit 1000 points that night, as it was kept a surprise. Hitting 1000 points is something I’ve always worked very hard for, and it was a great achievement.”

As conference player of the year last season for the conference, he also earned First Team All Region. Nacey’s presence on the court is nothing short of electrifying. Averaging over 25 points a game along with his ability to control the plays, make precise passes, and sink shots from all angles makes him a nightmare for opposing teams. His size, agility and basketball IQ make him a formidable force in both offense and defense. However, his ability to rally his teammates and foster a sense of unity is possibly an even larger factor in the team’s overall performance.

“Ben is one of those players you are gifted with once every 10 years,” said coach Robert Wolfe.

The Cox Falcons started the season strong, with a 8-1 record, but had a slight setback with a losing streak of five games. Under the talented leadership of Wolfe, a coach at Cox for over 25 years, the team rose back up with a four-game winning streak. They are poised for the playoffs and hope to make a long playoff run.

Nacey remains heavily recruited by colleges, and will have the well-deserved opportunity to continue to pursue his dream and passion at the college of his choosing.
