MLS Announces Anti-Discrimination Policy to Tackle On-Field Racial Abuse

MLS, in partnership with the Players Association and Black Players For Change, has introduced a new anti-discrimination policy to address on-field incidents of racial abuse. The policy aims to deter misconduct, promote accountability, and foster education and growth. It involves thorough investigations of incidents, restorative justice, and discipline if a violation is determined. Additionally, a cultural awareness training program called "Playing As One" has been implemented to educate participants on cultural differences and offensive language.

The new policy reflects a concerted effort by MLS, players, and advocacy groups to tackle racial discrimination in soccer and sports more broadly, setting a precedent for addressing such issues within the league and beyond.
