Welcome to the 1K Club: Mainland Regional basketball’s Tim Travagline, Ava Mazur, Kasey Bretones, and Bella Mazur

LINWOOD, N.J. — Four members of the Mainland Regional boys’ and girls’ basketball teams recently joined an elite coterie of athletes who’ve accrued 1,000 points during their high school careers. Seniors Tim Travagline, Ava Mazur, Kasey Bretones, and Bella Mazur all reached the milestone this February, proving dedication and hard work certainly do pay off.

“We are extremely excited for him and proud of him,” shares boys’ basketball head coach Dan Williams. “Tim has had a significant impact at the varsity level all four years as he was our 6th man his freshman season and a starter the other three seasons. It’s not just a great achievement for Timmy, but it’s also really cool for the entire program, as these milestones typically happen as the result of five guys playing unselfish basketball and understanding each other’s strengths.”

Echoing those sentiments, girls’ basketball head coach Scott Betson spoke candidly of both of his starters, beginning with Ava. “I am so happy for Ava This has been her goal since she arrived at Mainland and it has been a joy to watch her relentlessly pursue it. She has certainly cemented herself as one of Mainland’s all-time great players with this accomplishment.”

Just three days later, Kasey Bretones joined her teammate in the same celebration, to which Coach Betson shared, “I feel the same way about Kasey,” Coach Bretones shares. “She has put in so much time over the past four years to grow into the player she is now. She is so important to us on both ends and I am so glad she got to enjoy this accomplishment with all of her teammates and family.”

To complete the girls’ trifecta, Bella Mazur captured her 1K at the Cape-Atlantic League (CAL) tournament finals amid a packed EHT High School gym. “After two teammates got to that milestone, there was pressure for Bella to get there too, and she worked hard, just like she always does. I am so proud of her and this entire team.”

Congratulations to all four athletes and to their teams.
