7. Lee Sowers, SS, Douglas Freeman
Another top shortstop from the Commonwealth, Sowers was excellent for the Mavericks last season. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound middle infielder hit .340 with a .463 on-base percentage, a .560 slugging percentage and 1.023 OPS with 17 hits, 19 runs, 10 RBIs, eight doubles and a home run for a 19-5 Douglas Freeman team that made it into the Virginia High School League Class 5A state quarterfinals. For his efforts, Sowers was named VHSL Class 5A second-team all-state.
Sowers is considered a unanimous top-10 prospect in Virginia’s senior class, ranking ninth by PBR and fourth by Perfect Game. He is committed to the University of North Carolina.
