New Ulm drops opener at state hockey
ST. PAUL — Talan Helget scored midway through the third period in New Ulm's 8-1 loss to Warroad in the quarterfinals of the Class A boys hockey tournament Wednesday at Xcel Energy Center. Warroad, the No. 2 seed, led 6-0 after two periods. Austin Uecker assisted on Helget's goal. New Ulm had six shots on goal, while goalkeeper Bryer Hoffman made 29 saves. New Ulm (23-6-0) plays Northfield in the consolation bracket at 11 a.m. at Aldrich Arena. Northfield lost 5-1 to St. Cloud Cathedral on Wednesday. The Free Press
