GlenOak High School cheerleaders bring home NCA National Championship
DALLAS — The GlenOak High School cheerleaders returned to Dallas, Texas January 20-21, 2024 to compete at one of the nation’s most prestigious annual cheerleading competitions, NCA High School Nationals, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center for the second year in a row. After coming in second in 2023 by less than a point, the team was even more determined to bring home the win this year.
GlenOak was one of 400 high school cheer teams that competed in Dallas for a national title in one of several divisions. Coaches Alyssa West, Katie Buda, and Savanna McElwain took their 20 team members led by seniors Mikayla Kimble and Mohanna White across the country to Dallas to compete in the Crowd Performance Division, where they demonstrated school pride and athleticism on the competition floor. In addition to competing for a national championship, the Eagles enjoyed exploring all that Dallas had to offer and had the opportunity to meet other high school cheerleaders from across the nation.
“We are proud to represent GlenOak, Plain Local Schools, and Canton, Ohio on the national stage. This experience is something our athletes will never forget,” said Coach Alyssa West. “This opportunity would not be possible without the support of our cheer parents, GlenOak & Plain Local Administrators, the Plain Local Board of Education, and the hard work of our dedicated athletes. We are so excited to be 2024 NCA National Champions!”
The Eagles clinched the national title with an overall score of 97.74. The overall score is comprised of 25% of the first-day performance score and 75% of the second-day performance score. The team put on two incredible performances and placed first in their division on both days and was named the 2024 Varsity Novice Crowd Leading NCA National Champions. The team also earned awards for Superior Showmanship and Best Use of Tumbling.
